“One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.” Helen Keller
Can’t you just feel the energy of flight in this quote?! I absolutely love it!
What a great time of year as we start wrapping up winter (not sure we ever unwrapped winter) and start setting our sights on spring. This is also the time of year we start thinking about our wellness again. We’ve been hibernating for months, eating sweets and comfort food since Thanksgiving. Staying warm and cozy inside, snuggled up with our books, TV, family and friends. And every second of it has been worth it, right! No damage done…right? Our jeans still fit……. because they have been stretching all winter along with our bodies. We can handle this, right, because this is what happens every year.
We know that in the spring and summer we become more active, eat healthier foods and feel more alive! Ah, that’s what I’m excited about, feeling more alive! It sounds so simple. Yes, Paige. Be more active: “I will run every day when the weather gets warmer.” Eat healthier foods: “I will eat salads everyday when my garden is growing and the Farmer’s Market re-opens.” Feel more alive: “I will wait…..to feel more alive.”
Say, What?
We all do it. We wait for something, usually out our control, to live our better life. Why? Well, I have my theories…..but let’s not go there today.
You know exactly what I’m talking about. I bet you even have an idea of what your better self looks like, feels like and acts like. Yes, your best self is like that distant friend that you highly admire but are nervous to get to know fearing you won’t add up, you might disappoint, or the friendship might require too much effort. (okay, I kinda went there anyway).
I say, why wait? Allow yourself to be your best. Get out of your own way, open the door, extend a hand and welcome your best self home.
Grasp that idea, feeling, or thought of your best self. What does your best self do? What type of exercise do you do? How do you eat to keep your body healthy and feeling well? What activities stimulate you? Who is in your life that gives you energy? How do you stay balanced? When do you relax and renew? How do you share yourself with the world to make it a better place? As life changes, how do you adjust to continue being your best?
I’ll share a little secret. Sharing yourself with those around you will only strengthen your inner core…..your best self. Think of one person you want to share this with, open the door for them to do the same for themselves….to embrace their best. The understanding and mutual acceptance will provide support for your sustained success…..yes, even through the winter months.
Enjoy embracing your best self, welcome her or him home and nourish your self with wellness.
Enjoy your Well Self, today, don’t wait.
